Overview
Professor Xiang Biao’s research addresses various types of migration — internal and international, unskilled and highly skilled, emigration and return migration, and the places and people left behind — in China, India and other parts of Asia. During his visit at HKU, he taught a postgraduate course “Mobility, Governance and the Anthropological Imagination” and delivered two talks on “A Costly Order: Labour Migration, Commercial Intermediaries and Social Reordering in China” and “The Beginning of China’s Ethnicity Challenge”.
