Overview

WU Jiarui is a Ph.D. student and HKU Presidential Scholar at the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of Hong Kong. Before entering the Ph.D. programme, Jiarui received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of California, Irvine, and a Master of Sciences degree in Economic History from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Jiarui has a broad interest in the fields of humanities and social sciences, with a concentration on Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, Economic History, and Global Studies. His MSc dissertation studies the political economy and establishment of Contemporary China’s Central Banking Institution – the history of the People’s Bank of China.

Jiarui has composed more than 30 essays and book reviews for academic journals and the public media, such as Asian Studies Review, International Studies Review, Journal of Chinese Political Sciences, and Technology and Culture.
