In memory of Professor Wong Siu-lun, Honorary Professor of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences

It is our deep regret to learn of the recent passing of Prof. Wong Siu-lun, Professor Emeritus of Sociology, and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of HKU. Prof. Wong’s legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of our institution. His tenure as the Director of the Centre of Asian Studies from 1996 to 2009 was characterized by outstanding research on various aspects of Asian society, including Chinese entrepreneurship, migration, human trafficking, diaspora studies, East Asian regionalism, oral history, Asian business history, Chinese intellectual policies, and the quality of life in Hong Kong and Macao. In recognition of his invaluable contributions, Prof. Wong was appointed as Honorary Professor of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IHSS) when the Centre transitioned to IHSS in 2009.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Prof. Wong’s passion for academia and dedication to advancing knowledge will forever be remembered and cherished.
