The Idea of China: A Contested History (March 30, 2026)

On Mar 30, the Hong Kong Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences and the Institute of Transnational History of China, HKU jointly held a book launch on campus for Prof. Xu Guoqi’s new book, The Idea of China: A Contested History. Thanks to Prof. Zhiwu Chen for joining the discussion, moderated by Prof. Shen Haipeng, and to everyone who attended and participated.

Fairbank in China Now: Contemporary Academic and Policy Legacies (Apr 13, 2026)

On Apr 13, the Institute of Transnational History of China and the Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, HKU held a roundtable on “Fairbank in China Now” to discuss Fairbank’s ongoing influence. Thanks to Chair Prof. Paul Evans, speakers Prof. Chang Chihyun, Prof. Timothy Cheek, Prof. Pan Weilin, and Prof. Xu Guoqi for their insights. We also thank everyone who attended and participated.

Family Wealth Series: Ethics and Leadership in the Finance Profession: A Fireside Chat (Apr 9, 2026)

The Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, HKU hosted a fireside chat between Mr Anthony Tse and Ms Bonnie Leung on April 9.  Mr Tse, a founder and TEDx speaker with experience in finance, family offices, and early childhood education, shared lessons on leadership, entrepreneurship, and ethics, focusing on empathy and relationships.

The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, HKU hosted Mr Mike Iman, an experienced investment expert with over 25 years of work across Asia, for our Family Wealth Public Lecture Series. On March 26, 2026, Mr Imam gave a talk called “A Question of Legacy: Are Asian and European Family Offices Different?”.
